DIY: button bracelet
I saw this idea on Pinterest, and it's getting to the point when I can't remember where certain ideas came from. I saw this and I loved it! I just happened to buy a whole basket of vintage buttons from River Market Antiques in downtown KC. I bought the twine at Ace Hardware for a different project.

DIY: desk makeover
I've had this desk at my parent's house for years. I decided it was about time to take care of it. :)
Step One: Find old desk. Not too hard. When I actually got around to doing this project, I was informed that the desk is several years older than my grandparents are. I had tried to paint it back in junior high, thus the lousy paint job before! The desk started out an army green color, but I wanted it to be a fabulous grey color to match whatever decor I had. :)
Step Two: Prime. Not terribly hard. I got the primer that sticks to even glossy paint since I hate sanding. It worked wonders!!!
Step Three: Paint. :) I found some wonderful spray paint tips over at one of my favorite blogs! I used their suggestions and they helped immensely! Overall, I think it went well, and I'm STOKED to put it in my new apartment (whether it's in my room or my roommate's... since I was given another wonderful desk the day after I finished this one! More on that later!!!)

DIY: a little home decor
I'm guessing most of you know that I live with some friends. And now that I've graduated from college, gotten my career started, and perused Pinterest for probably hours upon hours, I'm ready to have my own place and personalize and decorate it!!!
Last time I was visiting my parents, I ran across some wonderfully patterned retro sheets that my mom had. So I took them. :) I decided that they might come in handy some day for some Pinterest project. ;)
This is the gorgeous material I had from my mom! I kept an eye out for frames to put it in, and ran across these 12"x12" frames from JoAnn Fabric. The frames were originally 19.99 each. I got them on sale for 50% off, and I had a $5 off a $25 purchase and a 15% off deal since I'm a teacher. I scored the three frames for $21.75 total. :)
The frames looked a little bare on the shelf I have around two of my walls. :) So I arranged some of my books in front of them as decoration.

DIY: personalized wedding gift: key fob
About a month ago, I bought these key fobs on Pick Your Plum (which might I add, is FANTASTIC! Seriously... hop on over and check it out, then subscribe for their amazing daily deals) and had them sitting around waiting for an idea.
My dear friend, Sunil, got married last weekend to a darling, godly woman, Amanda. Since I know myself, and I've gotten a decent clue as to just how wonderful Amanda is, I picked out the seemingly PERFECT gift to add to their already crafted wedding gift.
...and her new last name is on the other side. I know if I was a newlywed, I would freak at this gift, and possibly even just carry my keys around the house. So, I made my own... "Miss" on one side, "Roberts" on the other. haha! I'm paranoid enough about losing my keys... hopefully this will help if I ever do!
The key fob is made of thick felt, and the stitching is brown embroidery floss, leftover from my mug hug. I'm really excited to give it to her soon!!! :)

DIY: knitting, mug hug!
I tried (and basically succeeded at) my second knitting project! I made a coffee sleeve (or mug hug) for my to-go cups in a bonus attempt to go green, err, yellow... or just knit something small and fun. :)
I found the basic tutorial here and the extra fun stuff here. And as I looked back to link back, I realized I didn't even follow the tutorial. Oops! So basically, I just took the idea. ;)
My mug hug doesn't have a fancy stitch. I tried a stockinette, and then I tried k2p2, but both failed. Maybe I should "perfect" the basics before I branch out. I'm not exactly a pro yet. ;)
The mustache is brown, and the yarn is a burnt yellow. I love it. :) And since sewing is on my list of "things to attempt," I tried just sewing the back together (since knitting a circle anything is a far fetch at this point). I realized that looking nice was also a far fetch, so I went for the "Urban Outfitters" (I'll make this intentionally sloppy so it almost looks vintage) look. :) So yes, I know it looks terrible. I meant for it to. :)
I'm excited to try some new stitches and a few new projects... or just make one that looks like the original pattern. ;)

DIY: my first knitting project!
A dear friend wanted to learn how to knit, so I caved and bought some stuff so she wouldn't be alone in her mini adventure. Well, I completed a project!!!

I struggled some with keeping track of how many stitches I had done in each row, but I think it looks decent for my first project. I followed a tutorial I found here. As I typed up this blog, I realized that I skipped to her Part 3 lesson rather than starting at Part 1. That probably would've helped. haha
My current project is a coffee sleeve! :) It'll be adorable if I actually get it finished! :)

DIY iPhone case
I saw this on another website. I'm excited to try it out. I got a clear iPhone case for my iPhone 4 that I found for a great price on Craigslist. :) I traced the back of my phone on scrapbook paper and cut it out. I just slipped it in the back and closed the case around it! It's awesome! Right now I have two festive cases to sport for the holidays! I'm so excited to make more. I wish I could show what it looks like all said and done. But that's kinda tough!

DIY yarn wreath
I successfully completed my first DIY (do it yourself) project! I've started a few and have the intentions of starting a few more, but my dear friend Jennie gave one of these as a gift to another dear friend, Alyssa.
I've seen these puppies posted ALL over pinterest, which is the new rave, btw! Follow me! You won't be sorry! . . . and now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
These yarn wreaths are everywhere. So I headed over to JoAnn and picked out my supplies.
Yarn... $3.00 with PLENTY left over for my next project. :)
Styrofoam wreath... $5.00. I've heard you can buy these at the dollar store, but I was afraid of lesser quality styrofoam.
Felt... $5.00 for a HUGE box of every color imaginable. Word to my mother for finding such a wonderful thing at a yard sale!
Wooden buttons to give it a more rustic feel... $2.00. But I still have plenty of leftovers! :)
Hot glue and gun... cheap? I don't remember. lol
Total cost: $13.00 but I have felt and yarn left to clothe a small army. Maybe my students???
This tutorial looks great, but I didn't use one. Jennie explained it for a few seconds and I figured it out. Felt flowers can be found here and here.
After about a movie and a half, I was completely finished. Mine took longer than most since I alternated two colors of yarn to give it the "rugby shirt" effect, but I love it. :) It'll make my classroom door more festive once I make felt leaves with the students' names on them to hang as well!

day fourteen...
today was a wonderful, lazy, watch-the-rain day... after a shopping trip (and stocking up on the blessed nutella), Krisanna and i spent the afternoon lounging around and reading, devotionalizing, and watching TV. I just started reading (again) Forgotten God by Francis Chan. Wonderful book about the Holy Spirit's role in a believer's life and how often we neglect Him. Very challenging, but very exciting!!!
Tomorrow might bring a trip to another city in Portugal that is unvisited by me... to watch the USA women's soccer team compete. :) Not sure how all of tomorrow's plans will pan out, but I'm excited to see!
